KnownShift Decisions
Individual accessDelay & Recovery Simulator
A task slipped. Did the project actually slip?
See how a delay propagates through your schedule, how much float it consumed, and what it really did to the completion date. Then compare realistic recovery options before committing more cost or capacity.
The analysis and the report are produced in your browser. Access belongs to your KnownShift account, so it follows you between devices.
Illustrative result
- +6 days
- Activity delay
- 4 days
- Float absorbed
- +2 days
- Project impact
- ₹80,000
- Cost to recover the date
Example figures, shown to illustrate the output. Your analysis is calculated from your own plan.
Individual access, bought once. Analyse as many delays and recovery scenarios as you need, save them, and download the report on every one.
An activity delay is not a project delay
Report the six days and management over-reacts. Report nothing and nobody notices the plan is now four days tighter than it was. The difference between those two numbers is usually worth more than the delay itself, and it is the first thing this tool tells you. The second is what you can actually do about it, and what each option costs.
- 1
Describe the remaining plan
Five to twenty-five significant activities, the working days left in each, and what waits for what.
- 2
Apply what went wrong
Pick the activity that slipped and say by how much, or give it a revised remaining duration.
- 3
Say what recovery is genuinely possible
Which activities could be compressed, by how much, at what cost. Which dependencies could safely overlap.
- 4
Compare the options
What each one recovers, what it costs, what delay is left, and which gives the most back per rupee.
What you get
A priced choice, not a demand for more time
Everything a recovery conversation needs, in the order it is asked for.
- Real project impact
- The project movement alongside the activity delay, so nobody reacts to the wrong number.
- Float consumed
- How much slack the delay ate, and what has none left.
- Critical-path change
- The chain driving completion now, and what moved onto it.
- Recovery options compared
- Days recovered, residual delay, cost and completion date for each.
- Cost per day recovered
- The figure that usually settles the conversation about how far to go.
- An honest answer when the date is gone
- The maximum recoverable and what remains to be re-baselined.
- Why this result
- The exact path the model took, in your own figures, including what it rejected.
- Delay & Recovery Report
- A concise document to take into a recovery conversation.
Methodology
A schedule model, run on your own plan
The critical path is the plumbing, not the product. What the simulator does with it is the point: work out whether the date really moved, then compare only the recovery actions you have confirmed are possible.
Structured schedule modelling, not generative AI. The same inputs always produce the same answer, including the order the recovery options appear in.
View methodology for the full framework, the assumptions and what the model does not claim.
- Critical path and float
- A full forward and backward pass over the remaining network, in working days.
- Delay propagation
- The delay lengthens the activity and the whole network is recalculated, never added to the finish.
- Float absorption
- The reason a six-day slip can move the project by two, and the first thing the result explains.
- Fast-tracking
- Overlap within the days you authorise on a dependency, costing rework risk rather than budget.
- Crashing
- Compression within the limit and rate you supply for that activity, and never beyond either.
- Resequencing
- A dependency dropped only where you confirm it is not hard.
- Bounded search
- Only levers on a critical path are combined, and the search stops when nothing more is bought.
- Dominance filtering
- Options that cost more for no more schedule are removed rather than listed.
Questions
What people ask before buying this
Short, practical answers about what the simulator needs from you and what it gives back.
Before you buy
Using the simulator
Recovering this date is one thing. Trusting the next one is another.
The Delay & Recovery Simulator tells you what to do about the delay you already have. The Project Confidence Simulator tells you how likely the date you are about to recommit to actually is.
