The Problem

By the time an executive sponsor asks for an independent review, a project is usually already showing visible symptoms: slipped milestones, spiraling change requests, a delivery team that's stopped giving a straight answer about the real finish date. What sponsors need at that point isn't another status report from inside the project; they need an outside, structured assessment of what's actually true, delivered fast enough to still act on it.

Our Approach

• Go in with a structured diagnostic framework, not an open-ended fishing expedition: the review needs to be fast and defensible, not exhaustive.
• Talk to delivery team members directly and confidentially, since the honest picture rarely survives being filtered through the project's own status reporting chain.
• Separate root cause from symptom in the findings: "behind schedule" is a symptom; the actual cause is usually a specific governance, resourcing, or scope-control failure underneath it.
• Deliver findings the sponsor can act on within days, not a lengthy report that arrives after the decision window has closed.

Methodology

• Scope: agree with the sponsor on the audit's focus (schedule, budget, quality, vendor performance, or all of the above) and the timeline for findings.
• Review: examine project artifacts, financials, and schedule data directly, and conduct confidential interviews with delivery team members and key stakeholders.
• Diagnose: identify the two or three root causes actually driving the project's risk profile, distinguishing them from surface symptoms.
• Report: deliver a concise findings report with a specific, prioritized recovery or continuation recommendation.

Deliverables

• Structured audit findings report, typically delivered within one to two weeks of engagement start.
• Root-cause analysis distinguishing underlying drivers from surface symptoms.
• Prioritized recommendation: recover, restructure, or reset the project's plan.
• Optional executive readout session with the sponsor and steering committee.
